Executive Director
Heartland Soccer Association - Overland Park, Kansas
Newly created Executive Director role to lead and professionally manage the largest soccer league in the state of Kansas. This association was created 30 years ago to promote, coordinate, and administer the game of soccer for youth. Affiliated with US Youth Soccer, it has 600 teams and nearly 9,000 players involved in its recreational and competitive programs ranging from U-8 to U-19. Anticipated growth is expected to continue at 3-7% annually.

This is a highly visible opportunity to plan for and manage change throughout the association elevating efficiency, productivity, and service to the community. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administrative management and operation of the Association. The position reports to the Board of Directors consisting of the Presidents of the soccer clubs affiliated with the association and six elected representatives.

The Executive Director will:

  • Manage a $1.2 million budget.

  • Lead a team of one full-time office manager and three to four part-time staff.

  • Evaluate infrastructure, resources, and expenditures to achieve association objectives and goals.

  • Generate and expand streams of revenue through program development.

  • Organize, pursue and manage fund raising activities.

  • Strengthen alliances and relationships with leaders of the supporting clubs, Parks & Recreation, other soccer programs and associations, key businesses, and community services.

  • Effectively communicate information.

Program management experience is essential to further develop existing programs as well as the formation of new and alternative programs engaging youth in the game of soccer. Ongoing communication of vision and direction with multiple customer audiences including coaches, players, parents, referees, internal staff, key community alliances, vendors, and others will be critical to the success of the Executive Director.

Background desired consists of experience in youth program management, financial and budget management skills, well-developed communication (verbal and written) skills, fund-raising, marketing, and/or promotional expertise, as well as the ability to exercise excellent political judgment. Business or non-profit management background critical to the building of an effective infrastructure integrating internal and external resources.

Professionalism, teamwork, leadership, customer focus, change facilitation, and planning & organization are the core competencies desired to be exhibited by the Executive Director.

BS degree in Business, Sports Management, or related area preferred.
