2004 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series
The national championships of youth soccer are set for 2004 and teams are preparing to be one of the 48 to make a run at the US Youth Soccer National Championship title beginning with the US Youth Soccer State Cups. Known for its history, elite level of competition and great players, US Youth Soccer, the nations largest youth sports organization recently unveiled the new logo and event locations for the “crown jewel” of youth soccer, the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.
The US Youth Soccer National Championships cap a yearlong tournament, featuring competition for boys and girls teams in Under-12 through Under-19 age groups. Overall, the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides teams the opportunity to test their soccer skills against the highest level of competition while simultaneously stressing teamwork, discipline, fitness, and fair play.
Beginning with approximately 129,600 players on 7,200 teams in all 55 State Associations vying for the US Youth Soccer State Championship titles, State Cup champions in most age groups are eligible to compete in one of four US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Regional Championship events. Organized by their State Associations, US Youth Soccer State Cup Championships offer their state’s top teams an opportunity to compete for a regional birth. From Spokane, Wash. to Kingston, R.I. America’s youth will be competing for a chance to advance from the state level to regional and ultimately the national championship.
Those graced with the skill, ability and needed luck to win the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Regional Championships in the Under-14 through Under-19 age groups will earn a berth at the 2004 US Youth Soccer National Championships to be played July 20-25, in Lake Buena Vista, Fl. at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
US Youth Soccer National Champions claim right to one of soccer’s heirlooms with the awarding of their respective trophy. US Youth Soccer National Champion trophies are named for some of those who have played a role in American youth soccer. Two US Youth Soccer National Championship trophies were named last summer in honor of two American soccer icons, the Under-15 Girls National Cup now the “Kristine Lilly Cup” honoring the first player (man or woman) to appear in 250 career international games and the Under-15 Boys National Cup is now the “adidasÒ Cup” honoring adidas’ 15 year relationship with US Youth Soccer. The U.S. Soccer Federation initiated youth championships with the James P. McGuire Cup (Under 19 Boys) in 1935. Since its creation in 1974, US Youth Soccer has added 11 divisions to the National Championship tournament, most recently with the Under-14 and Under-15 Boys and Girls divisions in 2001 to create the series current format.
